87 Ruffin Street Gallery; Linville, NC

87 Ruffin Street Art Gallery resides next to the Old Hampton Store and is a unique art gallery with a variety of works such as paintings, crafts, collectibles, pottery, antiques, one-of-a-kind jewelry, handmade furniture, wood carvings, and more. The gallery presents an exciting showcase for Southern Folk Art by local and regional artists from many disciplines. A folk artist, Abigail Sheets, travels throughout the South visiting folk artists and brings their work back to her unique gallery in Linville, NC. The gallery is open from April until January. Many of the artists appear locally at the gallery to demonstrate their craft to visitors, such as blacksmiths, painters, and wood carvers. See the events page for more information to see these local artisans in action.

Bead artist Beth Meyers has her studio attached to the shop as she melts glass rods into beautiful handmade beads. Lampworking is a type of glasswork that uses a gas fueled torch to melt rods and tubes of clear and colored glass to make jewelry. Once in a molten state, the glass is formed by blowing and shaping with tools and hand movements. It is also known as flameworking or torchworking, as the modern practice no longer uses oil-fueled lamps. This art form has been practiced since ancient Syrian times. Beth is always working on creating new pieces in her studio, where you can watch her design and customize original bead jewelry.

Abigail Sheets has many artisans working for her unique shop in the little town of Linville, North Carolina. She has found eveyone of these artists through their artwork and sells many pieces inside the gallery to many tourists and collectors. 87 Ruffin Street Art Gallery is worth a visit to see all of these different types of artwork displayed.
