Behavioral Health Services

Behavioral Health Services are available at Cannon Memorial Hospital and Watauga MEdical Center. The programs are designed to assist adults experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties. Many people fail to seek help for mental health problems because of fear of stigma.

If you are having problems and feel that you need help, please do not hesitate to call us at (828) 737-7889 or (828) 268-9454

Cancer Center

The Seby B. Jones Regional Cancer Center, consisting of medical oncology and radiation oncology, opened in 1993. In 2002 an 8000 sq. ft. addition was opened to accommodate the growing regional demand for medical oncology services. The Cancer Center offers a multidisciplinary approach to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancers. Through advanced technology and a highly trained staff, the Center offers exceptional diagnostic and treatment procedures that include radiation, chemotherapy, biotherapy, brachytherapy, immunotherapy and hormonal treatments.

In April 2008, a new linear accelerator offering intensely modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) began treating patients. IMRT allows for a more precise dose of radiaion to be administered to tumors while sparing surrounding tissues exposure. The Cancer Center is one of the first facilities in North Carolina to offer this modality. Existing programs are currently offered only in larger cities across the state.

The following programs are currently available at the Cancer Center:

  • One on one patient and family teaching
  • Watauga Wellness Cancer Program
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Social counseling
  • Pastoral Care
  • PT, OT and Speech therapy
  • Financial counseling
  • Support Groups for Women with cancer
  • "Look Good, Feel Better"
